Guest edited by: Caroline Auty, University College London, UK.

This Special Issue explores international trends in e-politics and e-government.

The articles cover a wide range of issues including long-term access to government records and publications in Australia, the effects of technical developments on demand for traditional enquiry services in the House of Commons Library, e-democracy initiatives of the Scottish Parliament, and the implementation of an EDM system in the Danish public sector.

There are also articles examining poignancy in the US political blogsphere, and the weblogs written by members of the UK legislature.

Contents:

Accountability and accessibility: ensuring the evidence of e-governance in Australia
This article reviews the challenges associated with ensuring the capture and preservation of and long-term access to government records and publications in the digital age and describes how libraries and archives in Australia are responding to the challenge.

The House of Commons Library and the transfer of resources to electronic form for user self-service, 1979-2004
The growth of resources delivered via the Parliamentary intranet, and the provision of suitable and convenient retrieval equipment, have enabled the end-user and significantly reduced demands on traditional librarianship and reference skills.

The Scottish Parliament and e-democracy
The Scottish Parliament has always seen the internet as one of the major mechanisms for engaging Scottish citizens in the Parliament's business and activities. Its most successful initiatives have been the e-petitioning system, the webcasting of proceedings, the discussion forums and the MSP video diaries.

UK elected representatives and their weblogs: first impressions
This article examines the weblogs written by members of UK legislatures and attempts to determine whether such weblogs address commonly cited criticisms of MPs' websites.

Poignancy in the US political blogsphere
This article suggests methods and approaches to the study of relationships between the blogsphere and news, and shows, through a preliminary study, how the blogsphere makes particular political contributions through the manner in which social issues are discussed.

EDM in the Danish public sector: the FESD project
This article is a report from a country highly esteemed for its efforts in pushing public digital administration in order to create better service and higher efficiency.
